How long is a retreat?
A retreat weekend begins with a dinner on Friday night (7:00pm) and concludes after Mass on Sunday at noon. In addition to retreat conferences, various presentations are offered as well as prayer services and Eucharistic celebrations. You are encouraged to attend, but nothing is mandatory. A retreat is a personal creation and some people come to simply get some rest, while others enjoy the wonderful Christian community. The Passionist hospitality is unbeatable and the Retreat House and Monastery grounds are a beautiful and peaceful experience.

What do I need to bring?
All meals are provided as well as bed linens and towels. Dress is casual so you can bring whatever is comfortable. You should bring all toiletries or other special needs, but the Retreat House is close to stores if you happen to forget something. For more specific questions like special diets and handicapped access, please contact the Retreat House weekdays during regular business hours
at (718) 739-1229.

What is a retreat?
It’s a time-out or a pause in your regular day-to-day activities and responsibilities. Time to stop, look, listen to God and to examine your relationship with God.

A retreat is organized with enough flexibility to help you deepen your faith in your own way. Although some retreat formats vary, there is usually a central theme presented and carried through a series of programs and activities.

There is time for solitude and meditation and an opportunity for rest, relaxation, and friendship. It is a time for prayer and renewal, as well as for learning. A well-planned mix of various liturgies, workshops, and free time help develop the theme and provides something to bring home with you.

Why make a retreat?
Our lives are full of responsibilities, problems, noise, and worries. We might find ourselves lost in the busyness of our commitments and lifestyle...even too busy to achieve the balance we need to hear God’s voice. With all of the concerns and stress we have with families, jobs, health, finances, personal relationships, and a number of other concerns, we often don’t leave time for spiritual growth...even when we may need it most! A retreat can help us regain perspective and have a new awareness of God’s presence in our lives.

Who goes on retreat?
All kinds of people make retreats...all ages, from all walks of life. Yet the one thing they all have in common is the desire to bring a more meaningful realization of the presence of God in their lives. At each retreat, some are there for the first time, not knowing what to expect. On the other hand, some people have been making retreats for years, as a way of “recharging.” You do not need to be a “holy roller” or have a strong religious background. But what you do need is a thirst for a deeper relationship with God...and a way to bring God into your daily life at home and at work.

Come away and rest a while
